Hey, in many ways, Transformers was enjoyable. However, the movie definitely trafficked in horribly racist stereotypes. In particular, the Step'n'Fetchit like performance of Anthony Anderson was a disgrace. It's shocking to think that Michael Bay and Stephen Spielberg (especially since he has two African American children) would inject such crap into a family film.

From Anderson's introduction where he's shouting at his grandmother, to his dancing, and finally his cowardly denunciation of his friend, I can't think of worse stereotypical depiction in a major action pic in the last several years. For all of the faults of "Crash," the scene where Terrance Howard tries to explain to Tony Danza why a scene is bigoted but is forced to do it any way comes to mind here.

It's surprising after reading the script, Anderson didn't speak up.

Oh, well, to make matters worse, this weekend, Chris Tucker brings his sorry but back to the screen. God knows Tucker loves to shuck and jive in the worst way possible.

Ugh!

I completely agree.

I enjoyed almost every second of it.

Even when they gave Optimus Prime and the rest of them a sense of humor. You can't just make huge car-like robots funny, you have to try.

And the slow motion scenes were intense.

The cool thing about Transformers is watching them transform from cars to robots, and seeing where each part of the car goes. That's what rocked about the cartoon, and that's the *whole point* of the toys. In the movie, the transformations are so fast cut and quick that you can't see any detail! (except the first time you see a transformation, when each machine takes about 2 minutes to fully transform). They break into such miniscule pieces that, to be frank, they might as well just disintegrate and remould into a different creature (defeating the whole point of being robots in disguise). Its so messed up that even the models you can buy in record stores are in a fixed 'robot' pose, as the complex transformations in the movie made it impossible to transform them! I guess thats not such a disappointment if you don't remember the first generation of Transformers toys.

Lastly, when Bumblebee is broken and falling apart at the start he can transfer his energy into a different vehicle. But when he's broken and damaged near the end, suddenly he's dying and somehow has lost that ability. Just one of many inconsistencies in this shockingly disappointing movie.
